...without the buttons. If you're looking to bolster your jean wardobe with some slimmer fit low rise styles but afraid you're gonna come off looking like some Goth-punk rock-star wannabe who's so skinny they disappear when turning sideways ...relax ...those would be the "Skinny Fit" 517's not these. And if you're looking for some jeans that *don't* have "Relaxed", "Loose" or "Baggy" as part of their style moniker then these are the ones to get.
I would call these "sensibly-stylish-low-rise-jeans-for-the-more-mature-taste-crowd" ..."mature" in this case definitly *not* refering to beer belly and severe love handle embellished body types; consider these a goal for that weight loss or exercise program. They are also not the strict domain of the anorexic male model body type either; regular, non-gut bearing guys in halfway decent condition can wear these no problemo ...and look good. The waist sits lower than regular fit jeans but not radically so, they're sort of a mid rise ...no one's gonna be graced with viewing your choice of undergear or given a rendition of SNL's "Norge Man" routine when you bend over.
No matter your views regarding the modern day Levi Strauss Company, they *do* know how to make blue jeans that fit, are stylish and reasonably priced; the quality is still there. The 514's are called "Slim Straight fit" ...forget the "slim" part of it; they fit like Levi's 501's in the seat, thigh and legs with the leg openings the same size as 501's. I purchased a pair of 501's at the same time I bought the two pair of 514's so I had real time comparisons. The crotch on the 514 feels slightly higher than the 501's, but nothing radical or uncomfortable, and the cut of the jeans does help flatter the male anatomy ...your results may vary. If ya look good in 501's you'll probably look just as good, maybe better, in 514's.
Sizing of the jeans is a bit different; my usual 33x32 501 size translated into a 33x30 for the 514's. Shrinkage was not a problem in the waist (these were pre-washed) and the legs shrunk just a bit making them perfect in legnth for my taste. The only thing making these jeans better would be knowing they were proudly made here in the US of A ...like they used to be. My 514's were made in Egypt and Bangladesh ...hooray for the global economy. Okay, so much for the soapbox.
Do not fear the 514. In short, they fit great, feel comfortable and look good. Just like 501's without buttons.

| i have a waistline of 29" and finding a pair of jeans that fit me well is very hard. this jeans looks great on me and i bought 2 pairs and planning to buy a couple more. they feel so comfortable. remember that it is very important that you feel comfortable with what you are wearing. you cant be fashionable if you dont feel comfortable wearing it. it matches perfectly with everything as your top (polo, polo shirt, t-shirt) and matches well with slip-on shoes, sandals, casual shoes. |
Levis 514 are great

I used to wear Levis all the time but have drifted away. But now I'm back. I tried the 527 but I didn't like the boot cut. I've found 514. I have three pair now. The price at Amazon was great and I'm very happy with the look and feel of the 514. It seems the style now is low rise and I like the fit. Levis have made a great jean.
They fit well on the hips and are snug around the hips and in front and aren't too slim. They're kind of reveiling in front and that's OK. Unless you're really skinny the 514 will fit you better. I have the overhaul and the rigid. Watch out for the rigid because it will come off on furniture for a while. I'm into darker colors now and I'm very happy. Levis are still making a great jean at a lot cheaper price. |

| Okay,so I'm female and I've bought some cute feminine levis (524s)and I'm fond of comfort so I have 501's and 517 bootcuts.These make you look sleek and in control.I love the dark tints in these jeans,the rise is not toolow and not granny high.I'm glad I took a chance with these,they fit me fine. |

I am a tall, slim woman with curvy feminine hips. I get very frustrated when trying on jeans because they are either too short and/or so stretchy that my thighs feel shrink wrapped. I tried on a pair of these jeans and they look fabulous! A nice low rise in the front without your derriere spilling out when you bend over - slim in the thighs - a nice flattering straight let - and solid feeling denim as opposed to stretchy, thin, cheesy stuff. And PS - my butt looks GREAT!
If there are any women reading this review who just can't find a reasonably priced jean that looks good, give these a try! I'm asked all the time what jeans I'm wearing because people assume they are women's Levis, and I am not ashamed to admit that they are men's because they look great!

1. These are called "Low-rise", but what that means for me is "The crotch won't be down at your knees like the 501's."
2. These jeans fit better than anything I've ever tried. Mucho Applause for you, Levi Strauss.
3. That colour will come off on stuff. BE CAREFUL. Wash them a couple times before you sit on a white couch. |

| These are my favorite jeans. They fit well, aren't baggy and have worn nicely. They come in a 30 length, which is very helpful for us short guys. I wash mine in vinegar and hang them dry. The color has held nicely. I own two pair and plan to buy more. |

| I have a son who has gotten too tall for youth sized pants but not wider in the hips. I can't talk him into a skinny jean look as that is not his style, but these pants work! He gets a 29x32, will need 33 length very soon, and they look better than anything else we've tried. Other men's 29s, even in other brands, are way too baggy, and skinny jeans are too trendy for him--these are just right. |

| Levi's 514 is baggier than I thought, but it is not too baggy. Great if you're looking for a jeans that is not too skinny like 511 or too baggy like Regular Fit. |

| I'm so glad Levi's still makes these jeans, otherwise I'd have to keep wearing my way-wornout pair even though they're now an inch too short from dozens and dozens of washings over the years. If you're tall and skinny, these are the perfect jeans. |
Levi 514s look and feel great

I recently bought a pair of these. They are really comfortable and the fit is great. The fabric is light, but that makes it feel all the more comfortable. I did buy these during the summer, so the light fabric is great for now. It might be different in the winter.
You do need to be on the skinny side to wear these.
I was afraid that the 514s were going to be discontinued, so I bought a second pair. |

| Very good quality and cut. They are straight like a jeans must be, the fitting is great: NOT baggy in thigh (the opposit of the loose and ugly Levi's 505) and not too much slim. I bought the 514 in "Voltage" wash (color code 045140052): the denim weight is about 12 oz. The effective color is a little bit darker then in the picture here in Amazon. The back label is in brown similar leather, that gives a vintage look. Choose true waist and leg. With the seller ElectricKID, Amazon and FedEx shipping was punctual, precise and accurate. Five stars indeed. |

THESE JEANS ARE GOOD BUT I GOT THE RIGID DENIM ITS NICE IT HAS TIGER STRIPES AND NICE ARTIFICIAL FADES. THEY FIT SLIM LOOK GOOD WITH BLACK SHOES JUST MAKE SURE YOU GET THE WAIST ONE SIZE BIGGER CAUSE THEY FIT SLIM AND ARE VERY REAVELING TO BODY SHAPE.
ALSO THE AMAZON PIC ON THE DESCRIPTION MAKES THE JEANS UGLY CAUSE IT DOES NOT SHOW THE REAL COLORS AND FADES, AMAZON ONLY SHOWS THE MODEL WEARING SOME TIGHT UGLY JEANS BUT THIER ALL NOT LIKE THAT THEY ARE MUCH BETTER COMPLETELY DIFFERENTE SO DONT GO OFF THE PIC |
